As we know, ginger has been used for thousands of years, and has a huge amount of medicinal properties. It is from the same family as turmeric, where both are tropical perennial plants, classified as belonging to the Zingiberacaea family. Gingerol is the active compound within fresh ginger, and it is suggested that this has antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic properties.

What are the top health benefits of ginger?

1. Helps with pain

The anti-inflammatory properties have shown to help relieve pain, and improve joint function in people who have arthritis. It contains natural compounds that help your body fight inflammation. Studies have also shown that ginger helps to ease menstrual pain.

2. Boosts brain activity

Ginger is known to be a good source of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that reduces anxiety and depression.

3. Helps relieve nausea

4. Can help fight infections

The gingerol which is the bioactive substance in fresh ginger, is said to help lower the risk of infections.
